Molecular Sieve type 3A is an alkali metal alumino-silicate; it is the potassium form of thetype A crystal structure. Type 3A has an effective pore opening of about 3 angstroms (0.3nm).This is large enough to allow in moisture, but excludes molecules such as unsaturatedhydrocarbons which can potentially form polymers; and this maximises lifetime whendehydrating such molecules.

Molecular Sieve type 4A is an alkali alumino silicate; it is the sodium form of the Type A crystal structure. 4A molecular sieve has an effective pore opening of about 4 ang stroms (0.4nm). 4Amolecular sieve will adsorb most molecules with a kinetic diameter of less than 4 angstroms andexcude those larger, Such adsorbable molecules include simple gas molecules such as oxygen  nitrogen, carbon dioxyde and straight chain hydrocarbons. Branched chain hydrocarbons and aromatics are excluded.
5A Molecular Sieve
Molecular Sieve type 5A is an alkali alumino silicate; it is the calcium form of the Type A crystalstructure. Type 5A has an effective pore opening of about 5 angstroms (0.5nm). It will adsorbmolecules with a kinetic diameter of less than 5 Angstrom and exclude those larger.It is especially suitable for PSA adsorber applications where it may be used for the separation ofnormal-and iso-paraffins (C4 to C6 species), in PSA hydrogen purification and in oxygenconcentrators.

13X Molecular Sieve
Molecular Sieve 13X is the sodium form of the type X crystal and has a much large pore openingthan the type A crystals. It will adsorb molecules with a kinetic diameter of less than 9Angstrom(0.9 nm) and exclude those larger. It also has the highest theoretical capacity of thecommon adsorbents and very good mass thransfer rates. It can remove impurities too large to fitinto a type A crystal and is commonly used to separate nitrogen from oxygen.

Applications

Typical Application

1) Drying removing of CO2 from natural gas, LPG, air, inert and athmospheric gased, etc
2) Removal of hydrocarbons, ammonia and methanol from gas streams(ammonia syn gas treating)
3) Special types are used in the air break units of buses, trucks and locomotives.
4)Packed in small bags, it may be used simply as a packaging desiccant.


Regeneration
Molecular sieve Type 4A can be regenerated by either heating in the case of thermal swing processes; or by lowering the pressure in the case of pressure swing processes.To remove moisture from a 4A molecular sieve, a temperature of 250-280°C is required. A properly regenerated molecular sieve can give moisture dew points below-100°C.The outlet concentrations on a pressure swing process will depend on the gas present, and on the conditions of the process.
