Our MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) Biochip Media is an innovative carrier medium specifically engineered for high-efficiency biological wastewater treatment. Manufactured from premium High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE), it features a unique honeycomb structure that provides an enormous specific surface area, creating the ideal habitat for cultivating highly active microbial biofilm, including nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. It is particularly well-suited for treating high organic and ammonia-nitrogen loading in aquaculture effluent and municipal/industrial sewage.

Biodegradation Process:
 
Organic Matter Removal (BOD/COD Reduction): Heterotrophic bacteria utilize organic pollutants (BOD/COD) in the wastewater as a food source, oxidizing them into carbon dioxide, water, and energy. Nitrification (Ammonia Removal): Autotrophic nitrifying bacteria (e.g., Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter) oxidize toxic ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N) stepwise into nitrite (NO2-) and finally relatively non-toxic nitrate (NO3-) under aerobic conditions.
 
  1. Biofilm Inoculation & Startup:

    • Inoculation: The most effective method is to introduce activated sludge (from a well-functioning WWTP) or effluent/a small amount of media from a mature MBBR system. Reliance on indigenous microorganisms in the wastewater is possible but results in a longer startup.

    • Acclimatization: Begin operation at a low loading rate (or with diluted influent) and gradually increase to the design load. Monitor key parameters closely (DO, pH, NH3-N, NO2-, NO3-, COD/BOD). Biofilm maturation typically takes 2-6 weeks, depending on water temperature, inoculum, and influent quality.
